Linux Operating System

Linux is an operating system (OS), meaning it is the software on a computer, which enables applications and the computer operator to access the devices on the computer to perform desired functions. Basically, the operating system communicates the instructions to and from the processors and performs the instructed task. The OS then sends the results back to the application that had given instructions. Linux is such a type of operating system.

Linux is one of the widely used desktop OS that can also be used on devices from wristwatches to supercomputers. It is a prominent example of free and open source software collaboration, which means that the underlying source code may be used, modified, and distributed—commercially or non-commercially—by anyone under GNU (General Public License) licenses. Some of the mainstream Linux distributions are Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, Arch Linux, and the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

Linux operating system offers several advantages like:

  • Low cost
  • Stability
  • Performance
  • Network friendliness
  • Flexibility
  • Compatibility
  • Fast and easy installation
  • Full use of hard disk
  • Multitasking
  • Security
  • Open Source

Today the combination of inexpensive computers and free high-quality Linux operating systems and software provide incredibly low-cost solutions for both basic home office use and high-performance business and science applications.

Linux is also recognized as a major operating system by data center administrators as well as CIOs. With this booming Linux deployment comes increased demand for professionals who are conversant with Linux. This includes users, administrators, programmers, as well as buyers of Linux systems. A recognized Linux Certification provides a tangible way to show prowess in the operating system. NetTech India is one of the leading training institutes for Red Hat Certifications. The available certifications are Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), & Red Hard Certified Architect (RHCA).
